IBIMA joins the SMA NBS Alliance
The European Alliance for SMA Newborn Screening is proud to welcome its newest partner organization the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga (IBIMA).
IBIMA is a cutting-edge centre of excellence in biomedicine and an accredited research institute in Malaga, Spain. IBIMA includes a multidisciplinary research space in which scientists from the university and health field work for improving the health of citizens and the social and economic development of the region.
IBIMA is represented by Dr. Raquel Yahyaoui, a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist and newborn screening expert who was instrumental in helping to write medical sections of the SMA NBS Whitepaper.
Dr. Yahyaoui is currently managing a prospective study on newborn screening for spinal muscular atrophy and severe combined immunodeficiency in Eastern Andalusia at IBIMA. She is an active researcher, author, and speaker about the role of newborn screening and rare diseases on both the Spanish and International levels.
The Alliance would like to thank Dr. Yahyaoui and IBIMA for contributing their expertise to the Alliance’s work. Together with all the other Alliance partners, we can reach our goal of nationwide newborn screening for SMA in all of Europe.
